Recipe Series... Fleur Social Breakfast Bun

Fleur Social is a florist and specialty coffee shop located in the beautiful Barossa Valley. They are driven by a passion for floral botanicals and a love for locally sourced and produced ingredients.

This roll is a customer favourite at Fleur Social. A simple grab and go café staple that has been elevated with house baked brioche rolls and a generational relish recipe alongside some of the Barossa Valley’s ‘who’s who’ of food producers.  Simple to make and bake but one that will put a smile on everyone’s faces.

EGG AND BACON ROLL WITH HALLOUMI

House baked brioche roll

2 pieces bacon*

2 slices halloumi

Tomato relish

1 egg

Butter

LAUBSCH FAMILY TOMATO RELISH

750g diced cooking tomatoes

250g diced brown onion

175g sugar (half white, half brown)

1 tsp curry powder

1 tsp mustard powder

1 cup white vinegar

Pinch dried basil

Pinch dried oregano

4 large pinch salt

EGG AND BACON ROLL WITH HALLOUMI

Lightly toast brioche roll and liberally apply relish to one side and butter to the other. While roll is toasting, heat a large frying pan on high and fry bacon and halloumi. When they are to your liking push to the side, reduce temperature to medium-high and add a small knob of butter. When the butter foams crack egg into the middle and cook through with a nice gooey yellow yolk.

* For a vegetarian option you can sub out the bacon with garlic mushrooms.

TOMATO RELISH

Wash and dice tomatoes, place in bowl with half the salt. Peel and dice onions and place in another bowl with remaining salt, let both stand for at least 2 hours then drain off the liquid.

Put drained tomatoes and onions in a saucepan with the vinegar. Bring to the boil and add sugar, pepper and herbs. Mix curry and mustard powders with a little bit of vinegar to form a slurry then add to the saucepan. Boil for at least an hour or until the relish has thickened to your preference.
